the OMG Hydrographic Ground Truthing Experiment



Overview

With the establishment of the Chair in Ocean Mapping in 1991, a proposal for an NSERC strategic grant was accepted to use the remarkable tides in the Bay of Fundy as a means of "groundtruthing" remote acoustic measurements made from swath sonar systems. A series of experiments were designed and implemented in the summer of 1992 and 1993. The reults of these experiments have been reported in various publications:

Recoverable Data

Whilst this project was terminated many years ago, there remain a series of very usable data sets that we would like to ensure are kept available for other research groups.  Some of the smaller data sets were imperfectly logged and are probably not worth recovering. However a number of the data sets exist, in both a raw and processed form.  The most easily usable are the Simrad EM1000 data collected from the CSS Frederick G. Creed. These include:
